Lohri was celebrated on 13 Jan. 2018 by all residents of Heavenly Palace, Children of Margdarshan and Heavenly Angels. It was started with welcome address by General Manager, who gave significance of Lohri festival to all that it is a winter time Punjabi folk festival, celebrated primarily by Sikhs and Hindus from the Punjab region of Indian subcontinent. The significance and legends about the Lohri festival are many and these link the festival to the Punjab region. Many people believe the festival commemorates the passing of the winter solstice. Lohri marks the end of winter season, and is a traditional welcome of longer days and sun’s journey to the northern hemisphere by Sikhs and Hindus in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. It is observed the night before Makar Sankarnti, also known as Maghi, and according to the solar part of the Lunisolar Bikrami calendar and typically falls about the same date every year (January 13) . A few other residents also gave their view point of Lohri celebrations. Children of Margdarshan, Heavenly Angels and residents gave performances to mark the cultural folk festival spirit of Punjab and North India. Residents also gave performances. Lohri fire was lit with all residents participating with Punjabi folk and Lohri songs & all had a good time shaking their feet to the tune of heavy beats of Punjabi folk songs & lilting tunes. Finale of the function was with the sumptuous lunch.
